The Illinois Human Rights
Advocacy Protection Act

HB2723 / SB2462

The Illinois Human Rights Advocacy Protection Act

ILHRAPA will repeal Illinois’ 2015 AIPAC-sponsored anti-BDS (Boycott, Divestment, & Sanctions) law. This bill is currently rescheduled in committee for 2/26. WE NEED SLIPS NOW!

Illinois was the first (of now 38 states) to pass anti-BDS legislation.
Illinois will also be the first state to end the injustice and the suppression of human rights!

Power in numbers! We have the will of the people on our side, so click below to take action now! Let’s let Springfield know that Illinois believes in free speech and human rights!

We need your help putting Illinois on the right side of history by repealing our state's unjust anti-boycott law that was signed by former Governor Bruce Rauner in 2015. In 2014, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s administration devoted $25.5 million to an anti-BDS task force.

The State of Illinois is actively suppressing human rights advocacy and shielding Israel from accountability by retaliating against companies that use economic means to put pressure on Israel. We cannot let this stand.

The Illinois Human Rights Advocacy Protection Act (HB 2723 / SB 2462), introduced by Rep. Rashid and Sen. Porfirio, would restore protections for peaceful advocacy by repealing the state's 2015 anti-boycott law that targets advocates for Palestinian rights.

Illinois is on the Wrong Side of History

In 2015, Illinois was the first state to pass a bill into law that punishes a fundamental, crucial form of peaceful protest: using a financial boycott to protest Israel’s human rights violations.

The bill was distributed throughout the country, resulting in 38 states across the nation passing a law that punishes companies and/or individual contractors for boycotting Israel over concerns for Palestinian human rights.

Illinois makes Israel uniquely immune from peaceful protest and objecting to their actions.

In 2019, Ben & Jerry’s took a stand for human rights, and Illinois retaliated by directing our state pension fund to withdraw its investment in the parent company, Unilever, by an estimated sum of over $100M.

Pass the Illinois Human Rights Advocacy Protection Act

The Illinois Human Rights Advocacy Protection Act (HB 2723 / SB 2462), introduced by Rep. Rashid and Sen. Porfirio, would restore protections for peaceful advocacy by repealing the state's 2015 anti-boycott law that targets Palestinian rights & anti-genocide advocates for boycotting Israel.

The bill will restore our right to peacefully protest and protect vulnerable communities from retaliation.

Our laws must reflect the Illinoisan’s values of protecting civil liberties and human rights.

President Donald Trump has called for US troops to take over Gaza and make Gaza the “Riviera of the Middle East,” forcing the removal of 2 million innocent people and explicitly threatening ethnic cleansing.

University protestors are being threatened with deportation for standing up for the over 140,000 Palestinians who have been killed.

We Must Protect Our Rights

Illinois should not withdraw investments from companies that protest these atrocities.

As a humanitarian catastrophe continues to unfold before our eyes due to Israeli policy of occupation and apartheid in Palestine, Illinoisans reserve the right to engage in peaceful protest and express their belief in a just peace. We must work to protect these rights.
