Lobby Days

Human rights advocates across the state are invited to join us for lobby days at the Illinois State Capitol during the 2026 spring legislative session.

Your presence makes a difference! During Lobby Day, you’ll meet with your legislators and advocate for the Illinois Human Rights Protection Act. We will provide training and all the materials you’ll need for a successful day.

Complete the form to join us for our MAY 20 RALLY at the State Capitol and download the flyer to share with your networks.

What to Expect

After you register to attend, our Lobby Day leadership team will reach out with information about the pre-lobby day training.

One training is required prior to attending a lobby day.

After you attend a training and confirm your attendance, ICHR leadership will determine which volunteers you’ll be grouped with and which legislators you’ll meet.

Our last lobby day of the year will be a Springfield rally where our main goal is to make sure every legislator knows that we won't go away until Illinois respects the UNIVERSAL human rights of all people and stops misusing public pensions dollars to help prolong the Palestinian genocide, the ethnic cleansing in Lebanon, and the regional devastation that's destabilizing the global economy.

We hope you can join us to send this powerful message.

Visit Your Rep: Make Your Voice Heard In-District

Your state legislators’ district offices are meant for exactly this. Showing up in person is one of the most powerful things a constituent can do. It signals you're paying attention, you're organized, and you're not going away.

We're asking people across Illinois to visit their representatives and advocate for the passage of ICHR’s bills. Here's everything you need to walk in ready.

How to Visit Your Rep

1. Find your legislator. Not sure who represents you? Look up your Illinois state senator and representative at ilga.gov using your home address.

2. Contact their district office. Call or email to request an in-person meeting. Identify yourself as a constituent. You don't need to give a reason — but you can say you'd like to discuss pending legislation.

3. Bring people if you can. A small group of 2–5 constituents is ideal. It shows community support without overwhelming the office.

4. Show up prepared. You don't need to be an expert. You just need to know why you care and what you're asking for.

What to Say

  • Keep it simple. Lead with who you are, where you live, and why this matters to you personally.

  • Then make the ask clear:

"I'm a constituent, and I'm here to ask you to support the passage of [bill name]. Here's why it matters to me..."

  • You don't need to recite every policy detail. Legislators and their staff hear from lobbyists all day. A real person with a real story cuts through.

Before You Go

  • Bring a one-pager — we've got resources below

  • Write down your ask so you don't forget it under pressure

  • Take notes during the meeting — who you spoke with, what they said

After Your Visit

  • Tell us how it went. Your report-back helps us track where legislators stand and coordinate next steps across the coalition
